As of April 3, Illuvium has reintroduced $ILV rewards across its expanding array of game modes, marking a significant development for the web3 gaming title. This comes after a comprehensive overhaul of its in-game economy, systems, and gameplay through the implementation of the Unified Fuel system. The update not only launched a new economic framework but also reinstated Overworld runs, enhanced the Arena Gauntlet, and introduced innovative methods for players to engage and earn rewards.

Understanding the Illuvium Unified Fuel System

The Unified Fuel system simplifies the previous fuel types—Crypton, Hyperion, and Solon—into a single Fuel that is now utilized across most Illuvium games. Priced at a stable $0.01 by the DAO, this unified currency enables players to better manage their spending while shielding the in-game economy from volatile price fluctuations. Additionally, landholders in Illuvium Zero will receive ETH payouts based on the amount of Fuel they burn in relation to the overall player community. All prior Fuel balances have been migrated, with conversion ratios established to ensure equitable purchasing power for all users.

Before these enhancements could be implemented, the team paused Overworld Runs and disabled the Fuel Exchange across all modes on February 28. This temporary halt was essential for conducting a critical testing phase on the Sepolia Testnet, allowing the team to rigorously evaluate the new systems and gather player feedback. Although the Arena remained operational, Overworld gameplay was suspended for a full month until March 28, when patch v1.8.0.c was released, restoring access to Overworld with the Unified Fuel system fully integrated.

Return of $ILV Rewards with New Earning Opportunities

With the new infrastructure in place, April 3 marked the official resurgence of $ILV rewards. Now in its second week, players can earn $ILV through a variety of in-game activities. The Ranked Gauntlet mode in the Arena rewards the top 100 players with 200 ILV each week, while the Overworld and ADR Bounty Hunt Leaderboard offer an additional 200 ILV for adept Illuvial hunters. Players participating in Gauntlet matches can also receive Fuel as bonus drops, with the top four finishers in a match having a 30% chance of winning Fuel, provided they meet specific gameplay criteria, such as reaching Round 16 and maintaining a rating above 1200.

New Competitive Element: Raffles

Illuvium has also introduced a raffle system linked to performance in the Ranked Gauntlet. Players who rank in the top six of a qualifying match (without surrendering) earn a raffle ticket. Every two weeks, five winners are selected at random to share a 200 ILV prize pool. Reward tiers range from 100 ILV for the first place down to 10 ILV for the fifth place. To maintain fairness and discourage multi-account exploitation, the raffle employs a “Quadratic Correction System,” which enhances the odds of winning for players who keep all their tickets on a single account.

Automated Drone Runs (ADR) Improve Overworld Gameplay

The reinstatement of rewards aligns with the official launch of Automated Drone Runs in the Overworld. This feature allows players to swiftly gather batches of Illuvials without having to explore the map. ADR accommodates quick collection strategies as well as high-tier hunts, depending on player preferences and budgets. The points earned from these drones contribute directly to the Bounty Hunt Leaderboard, where players’ scores are influenced by the rarity and quality of the Illuvials they capture. Rare Holo or Dark Holo creatures provide a significant boost to leaderboard standings.

To facilitate the management of the expanding rewards system, Illuvium is introducing a new Rewards Dashboard. This tool will enable players to claim their ILV or Fuel earnings across all game modes and select their preferred reward currency. Leaderboard snapshots for Week 1 were captured on April 9, and payouts will soon commence through this new system.

Currently, the price of $ILV is approximately $11.78, meaning each weekly leaderboard pool amounts to nearly $2,356, with additional rewards available through bi-weekly raffles and daily Fuel Drops. For players consistently advancing in the ranks, these rewards can accumulate rapidly.

Getting Started: How to Play and Earn

Joining the game is straightforward; it’s free to play and accessible via the Epic Games Store. New players can register using Immutable Passport and dive directly into Arena Ranked matches or Overworld Drone Runs to start competing. With weekly leaderboard resets every Thursday, players have ongoing opportunities to improve their rankings and claim rewards.

Future Developments for Illuvium

Looking ahead, Illuvium plans to introduce even more features. A Leviathan Gauntlet leaderboard catering to high-stakes competitive gamers is on the horizon, along with the launch of the Illuvium Zero leaderboard, which will reward the top land managers with 100 ILV weekly. Additionally, the much-anticipated Battle Pass system is set to debut within two months, providing cosmetic items, access to tournaments, and extra rewards.

Furthermore, the Illuvium team is hosting a Town Hall on April 10 at 20:00 UTC, featuring co-founder Kieran Warwick and co-game directors Trevor and Steven. They will preview upcoming enhancements for the MMO-lite version of Overworld, including multiplayer functionalities, breach combat mechanics, and new ranger gear systems.
